Recently I was fortunate to be able to spend three weeks touring South Australia -- a beautiful place with the friendliest of people. What an amazing journey. Peter was our guide who made sure that we saw much of the wild life of Australia up close! As we were cruising through the countryside, his keen eye would see a critter, he would slam on the brakes, and jump out of the car and catch it so I could see it up close! Sometimes I thought I would not survive the ride! During one of our stops I met "Millicent", aka Millie, a young orphaned Joey who was very friendly and generous with her kisses. She was being raised by a family who planned to take her to a sanctuary when she grew up. Her pouch was a pillow case which she willingly crawled into when it was time to go.
As keen an eye that Peter had for critters, he soon became aware of my keen eye for quilt shops. He was patient and willing to stop at most all. Our timing was great as we arrived in a city where their equivalent of the PIQF was happening. The quilt photo is one of the entries. I found the pattern for this quilt and added it to my stash of souvenirs. I was convinced that I could travel light but after stopping at many quilt shops and acquiring a yard of this and a yard of that, and a fat quarter here and a fat quarter there, I returned home with fabric in every pocket and in everyone's suitcase.
The Aboriginal prints are beautiful and reminiscent of my journey. I have located several pieces along with contrasting Batiks to keep in the store for your shopping pleasure. Click on the kangaroos to begin your Australian fabric adventure. Keep checking back -- more favorite pieces will be added as I locate them. G-day mate!
